Why does my IP show up here?
Every request to a website carries the sender's IP address, the same way a letter carries a return address. This page simply reads that address off your connection and looks it up against local GeoIP data, no client-side tracking script or third-party call involved. That's also why the result is instant: nothing is fetched after the page loads, it's already in the HTML you received.
IPv4 vs. IPv6: which one is mine?
Every connection to this page arrives over one of two address formats. Your IPv4 address looks like 103.72.25.118, four numbers separated by dots; your IPv6 address looks like 2001:db8::ff00:42:8329, a longer string of hexadecimal groups. The IPv4 and IPv6 rows above show whichever your connection actually used, some networks are dual-stack and report both, others only one, depending on your ISP and device. If a row says "Not detected," that usually just means your network doesn't have that protocol configured, not that anything went wrong.
Public IP vs. private, local, and router IP
Your device actually carries two different IP addresses at once. The private IP, sometimes called your local IP or network IP (often something like 192.168.1.14), only exists inside your home or office network and identifies your device among the others sharing the same router. The public IP, shown above, is your real IP as far as the wider internet is concerned: it's what your router presents to every website you visit, and it's the current IP your ISP has assigned to your connection. Checking your device's Wi-Fi or network settings shows the private, router-side IP; this page shows the actual external IP that sites see.

Windows
Open Settings > Network & Internet, click your active connection (Wi-Fi or Ethernet), and your IPv4 address is listed under Properties.
Mac

Why does my IP address keep changing?
Most home connections use a dynamic IP that your ISP can reassign after a router restart or lease renewal. Switching networks, Wi-Fi to mobile data, or connecting through a VPN, changes it immediately too. A fixed, unchanging address is called a static IP and usually costs extra on a business plan.
Is my ISP's IP address the same as mine?
No. Your ISP manages its own pool of addresses and assigns you one from it for your specific connection. The IP shown above is yours for this session, not a shared address that belongs to the ISP itself.
Does my IP address reveal my exact address or identity?
No. An IP address maps to the city or region your ISP routes traffic through, not a street address, and on its own it identifies your ISP account, not you personally. Pinpointing an actual individual behind an IP requires the ISP's subscriber records, which are only released to law enforcement or through a legal request.
